"forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions.”
The Culmination of today's Gospel is all about "Forgiveness." Earlier on, finding a fig tree with no fruit, Jesus Condems it, and the next day, passing by, they find it had withered and died.
What is Essential to note, is that figs were out of season, thus it would have been "Naturally Impossible" to find it's fruit. Our Lord Therefore is Insisting that we go Beyond that which seems "natural," applying a Higher standard than that of the world.
Thus our Expressions of Mercy, must exceed "an eye for an eye" and we must never find Justification in even the mildest form of revenge, regardless of how we have been wronged.
We are called to live, while upon this earth, a Supernatural Life, going way beyond what even Nature demands. It is easy to "hide" behind that which the "Majority" finds acceptable, thinking that "If everybody's doing it" then, the Teachings of The Church must be out of touch, or back in the "Middle Ages"
This False Perception has been Augmented by the acceptance that "Change" is Progress, and that we must "Adapt" to the "Evolving" standards of Society.
If the society is founed on the Gospel there might be a valid argument to be had, But we live in a "Me, Myself and I" world where The Moral Values, once treasured and taught in our schools, like the Ten Commandments, have not only been removed from the curriculum, but have been replaced by an Amoralism.
As Christians, we are "All" called by God to much Higher Standards than that of the world, and if one has The Courage and Conviction of Faith, Through The Grace of God, we can Truly Conquer the World, bringing about The Kingdom of God, which Must First and Foremost, have it's Foundation in the Heart of Man.
God Bless You
